New look at $180m 5-star hotel plan

More details and pictures have been revealed for the Comiskey Group’s proposed $180 million five-star hotel precinct at North Lakes.

It comes from a development application, lodged with Moreton Bay City Council, for the huge project in the North Lakes CBD.

The Comiskey Group announced its tourism, dining and hotel vision onsite last September with Mayor Peter Flannery saying it “ticked every box”.

Plans with the DA show a nine-storey five-star hotel with 141 rooms and suites on seven levels above a ground floor lobby, drop-off, tavern and swimming pool.

Function rooms, administration and staff amenities would be on the first floor. Two levels of basement parking would have 142 spaces for the hotel.

A further 579 parking spaces would be for a neighbouring three-storey town centre “mixed use” commercial development.

The vacant 1.72-hectare site, which is flanked by three roads, will also have 48 bicycle parking spaces and a “landscaped central plaza”.

When announcing the plans last year, Comiskey Group Director Rob Comiskey described the multi-million dollar precinct as a “mini James sStreet”

“The resort will blend luxury accommodation with premium food, boutique retail, generous green spaces and event experiences to create a destination locals will love, and visitors will travel for,” he said.

Building a new five-star hotel was also “right in our wheelhouse” – unlike eight years ago.

“When the first (North Lakes) tender came in, seven or eight years ago, we looked at it … and weren’t successful,” Mr Comiskey said.

"But sometimes things happen for a reason. I’m much happier today with the concept we have presented. It is much better than the concept we presented back then.”

The Comiskey Group, based in Moreton Bay, and has built and runs Eatons Hill Hotel, Sandstone Point Hotel, Dakabin Hotel and is building the new $50m Country Club Hotel at Strathpine.
