New nature play park opens in Bray Park with space for all ages
Families in Bray Park now have a new place to explore, play and unwind, with John Bray Park officially reopening following a major upgrade.
The park on Walsham Street has been transformed into a district-level destination, featuring a nature-inspired playground designed to cater for children of different ages, along with open spaces for sport, picnics and casual catch-ups.
What’s new at John Bray Park
The upgraded park includes a mix of play and recreation features, including:
A Scribbly Gum moth cocoon play tower
A tree-log crawl tunnel
Wet and dry creek beds for nature play
Open turf areas suitable for ball games
Shaded picnic facilities
A multipurpose sport and pickleball court
Outdoor fitness equipment
More than 100 new eucalyptus trees have also been planted throughout the park, helping provide shade and maintain the area’s natural feel
Easier access for families and visitors
A new footpath now connects the park to Bray Park train station and Strathpine Centre, making it easier for families and visitors to walk or ride to the area rather than relying on cars.
An accessible amenities block and additional car parking have also been added, helping make the park usable for people of all abilities.
Designed with community feedback in mind
Mayor Peter Flannery said the upgrade was shaped by local input and designed to support community wellbeing.
“It’s truly a park for everyone,” Mayor Flannery said.
“Parks and open spaces are essential for community wellbeing. This upgrade delivers a welcoming, family-friendly space shaped by local feedback, so it’s fantastic to see people already enjoying this new space.”
Division 8 Councillor Jim Moloney said the strong turnout at the opening reflected how valued the park is by locals.
“John Bray Park has always been a well-loved green space, and this upgrade takes it to the next level,” Cr Moloney said.
“There’s something here for young and old, from nature play and sports to shaded picnic spots and beautiful open areas to relax.”
With its mix of nature play, sport and open space, John Bray Park is expected to become a popular option for families looking for somewhere different to spend time outdoors.
