New parks for school holidays
Four new and upgraded parks are opening across the Moreton Bay region ahead of the spring school holidays.
Moreton Bay City Council has spent more than $1.8 million on the play areas at Griffin, Morayfield, Burpengary and Bellara.
“These new playground and park facilities provide quality places for families to spend quality time together close to home,” Mayor Peter Flannery said.
“Going to the local playground or park is a free and fun school holiday activity that children can enjoy for hours.”
- Riverview Parkway, Griffin: Opened at the end of August, the new $550,000 park has equipment for toddlers through to school-age children and open green space. There’s a play fort, climbing wall, swings, two slides, spinner and nature play area with balancing beams. The new park will get shade sails in the coming weeks.
- Crowe Road Park, Morayfield: A new $440,000 playground which is to open before the school holidays, weather permitting. Designed for young children to school-age, it has multiple climbing elements, swing bank including a basket swing and junior senior swings, large tunnel slide, rock climbing wall, inclusive carousel, imaginative play elements, shade sail, yarning circle and park shelter with picnic seating. The old park is now open space.
- Station Road, Burpengary: A new $470,000 play space is by the skatepark in front of the car park at Burpengary Sports Complex. It has a new basketball court, rebound wall with an art mural, skate elements and playground with a climbing structure.
- Pirate Park, Bellara: New barbecue and picnic facilities have been completed, making it a more inviting space for families by the foreshore. Upgrades also make it easier for food vendors and community gatherings. The $340,000 project includes newly landscaped open space, a new drinking fountain with dog bowl and new bike racks.
