New shopping centre in boom suburb

Plans have been lodged for a new shopping centre in Moreton Bay, beside a large block which already has approval for a Catholic school.

The shopping centre, anchored by Woolworths, is proposed for 2.9-hectares on the corner of Callaghan Road and Morgan Road in Narangba.

Plans on Moreton Bay City Council’s website describe it as a “local centre” which “provides a full‑line supermarket, supporting specialty retail, child care and centre activities”.

This is to “meet the day‑to‑day needs of the Narangba community while reinforcing the role of the centre as a convenient, accessible and integrated neighbourhood focal point”.

Stage one would include the Woolworths supermarket and speciality retail/commercial tenancies as well as 283 car parking spaces.

Stage two would include a child care centre, speciality retail/commercial and a further 105 car parking spaces.

To the north is an 11.9ha block for which a new Catholic school was given the green light last year by the Queensland Government.

Despite having approval, there is no start date or guideline for the new school.

Brisbane Catholic Education said: “The opening years of the proposed new Catholic school at Narangba have not been determined.

“While Brisbane Catholic Education received approval on a Ministerial Infrastructure Designation application in August 2025, this was one step in a list of approvals required to open a school.

“BCE will keep the community informed of any updates.”
