Next priority for Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd upgrade
Detailed design work has started on the section of Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd between Old Toorbul Point and Saint roads, with the stretch a ‘priority’ as part of the broader upgrade which received funding in last month’s State Budget.
The State and Federal Governments have previously committed $59.41 million to upgrade the road, with $30 million from the Federal Government and $29.41 million from the State Government.
Last month’s State Budget allocated $1 million for the Hickey Rd to King Johns Creek stretch and $7.5 million to the overall Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd upgrade for the 2023-24 financial year.
A further $25.2 million has been allocated to design and construction of the overall upgrade.
There are five separate projects listed on the Transport and Main Roads Department website under the umbrella of the Caboolture-Bribie Island Road Upgrade Program.
These include Bribie Island Bridge (planning); Hickey Rd to King Johns Creek; Old Toorbul Point Rd to Saint Rd; Regina Ave (upgrade intersection); Old Toorbul Point Rd (intersection upgrade).
The two intersection upgrades have been completed with turning lanes and traffic lights now installed at Regina Ave and Old Toorbul Point Rd.
The next identified priority for Caboolture-Bribie Island Rd is the section between Old Toorbul Point and Saint roads, with detailed design work happening now.
Planning to duplicate the road between Hickey Rd and King Johns Creek has also started.
A business case and concept design for a new Bribie Island Bridge is being developed, with concept designs expected to be released later this year.
State Member for Pumicestone Ali King says she is committed to seeing important upgrades to Bribie Island Rd and other crucial road links progress as quickly as possible.
“Road upgrades matter to our Pumicestone community, and getting local transport infrastructure moving is crucial,” she says.
“I'm proud of what I've achieved so far, with major upgrades to Bribie Island Rd completed, more in planning, and progress towards our next Bribie Island Bridge. Our start-to-finish upgrade of Beachmere Rd will also begin this year.
“There's always more to do and I'll keep working hard to get these important projects delivered for our community.”
