Overseas travellers’ return a boost for region

The arrival of fully vaccinated international travellers is good news for Moreton Bay Region’s economy, according to one local Chamber of Commerce.

The State Government eased its border restrictions last weekend, meaning fully vaccinated travellers from New Zealand, Singapore, Japan and South Korea no longer need to quarantine on arrival.

The move has allowed families to reunite with loved ones, and it is also hoped it will entice holidaymakers to spend their cash in the Sunshine State.

Hills and District Chamber of Commerce President Mary Di Marco says money flowing through the region is good for everyone.

“Visitors coming in and spending money is always a good thing. It’s going to be a good cash boost for many industries,” she says.

“The Moreton Bay Region has plenty of drawcards which international travellers would find appealing.

“The first one is our lifestyle – we have beautiful sunshine here every day.

“We have tourism, eco-tourism, agriculture, economic development and property development.

“All of those areas are growing opportunities for international visitors to come and discover, as well as locals and interstate visitors.”
