Patricia Piccinini works visit Redcliffe
Redcliffe Art Gallery is playing host to an exhibition by leading contemporary artist Patricia Piccinini.
‘Curious Affection’ is on tour thanks to the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art following its success at GOMA in 2018.
“Patricia Piccinini is one of the most exciting and challenging Australian artists working today,” Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery says.
“Following the success of her major solo exhibition ‘Curious Affection’ at QAGOMA in 2018, Redcliffe Art Gallery is thrilled to be exhibiting a selection of her sculpture, photography and video works.”
QAGOMA curatorial manager of Australian art and curator of ‘Patricia Piccinini: Curious Affection On Tour’ Peter McKay says that “influenced by science, nature, fiction and the unconscious, Patricia’s ongoing concern is the social impact and moral responsibility of advanced technology on people, animals and our planet.
“Her fantastical creatures and environments are, in a way, propositions about possible futures.”

Visitors to the Redcliffe Art Gallery will enter Patricia’s world - a place where conventional boundaries between reality and artifice are unstable, and our intrigue and curiosity are pulled into the space between.
“The works engage you on an emotional level,” Mr McKay says.
“The social conditions that surround Piccinini’s creatures elicit an empathetic response, while their physical appearance challenges conventional notions of beauty. Together, these aspects invite audiences to look beyond strangeness to consider the intrinsic value of others however great their difference. Mr McKay said.
Highlights of the exhibition include a major new work titled The Couple 2018, a sculpture of two figures inside a tent in a loving embrace and Teenage Metamorphosis 2017, a curious little creature reclining on a towel listening to the radio and reading Kafka.
“It’s exciting to have the ‘Patricia Piccinini: Curious Affection On Tour’ at our most exciting new gallery,” Mayor Flannery says.
Mayor Flannery says a visit to the exhibition is also the perfect chance to grab a bite to eat at one of Redcliffe’s many eateries and take in stunning views of the bay.
‘Patricia Piccinini: Curious Affection On Tour’ is at the Redcliffe Art Gallery until October 30.
The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm.
