Police revoke fire declaration
UPDATE 9AM: The earlier emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act has been revoked.
Old Gympie Road between New Settlement Road and Pitt Road are now open. The on ramp to the Bruce Highway northbound remains closed, however, there is no ongoing threat to the public.
UPDATE: 9.30pm - Queensland fire fighters are still battling a huge fire at a storage facility beside the Bruce Highway at Burpengary tonight.
There are currently 26 fire crews, which includes senior officers, at the site. Multiple teams are in breathing apparatus as they work externally to bring the blaze under control.
First crews arrived at 6.10pm with the fire in a ground floor unit, but the blaze has spread to the second and third floors.
ORIGINAL STORY: Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) due to a huge fire beside the Bruce Highway at Burpengary tonight.
About 6.05pm, police and emergency services were called to storage units on Old Gympie Road to reports of a fire.
Reports suggest the blaze may have spread to two levels of the storage facility. Up to nine fire crews are reported to be on the scene.
A PSPA was declared about 7.05pm with the exclusion zone around New Settlement Road, Pitt Road, Bellini Road, Twists Road and Old Bay Road.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors and close their windows until further notice.
A number of roads in the area are being affected due to the large amount of smoke from the fire.
Pitt Road, Old Gympie Road and the northbound Bruce Highway, Deception Bay onramp is closed.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and to drive to condition.
