Polling date for Moreton Bay residents
The by-election date has been revealed for almost 30,000 residents in Moreton Bay City Council’s Division 11.
Polling to elect a replacement for Darren Grimwade, who resigned on July 10 after nine years in the roll, will be on Saturday September 27.
The Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) confirmed the by-election will be a full postal ballot for all enrolled Division 11 voters.
There will be no polling places for voters to attend.
Electoral Commissioner Pat Vidgen said nominations for the councillor position are now open until noon on Thursday August 28, 2025.
Potential candidates must ensure they are eligible to nominate, pay a deposit of $250 and open a dedicated campaign bank account.
They must also complete the free ‘So you want to be a councillor’ online training through the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers website.
Each independent candidate must be endorsed by at least six eligible nominators currently enrolled in Moreton Bay City Council Division 11.
Candidates must be enrolled to vote in Moreton Bay City Council, but do not have to live in Division 11.
For more information visit the Election Participants page on ECQ’s website.
“Postal vote materials will be mailed to each voter, so it’s important
to make sure your enrolment details are up to date,” Mr Vidgen said.
If enrolled to vote with a postal address different from your enrolled
address, your postal vote materials will be mailed to the postal
address.
Ballot draw
Those needing postal vote materials sent to a different address, have
moved and need to change an address or enrolling for the first time,
must update details or enrol by 5pm on August 25, 2025 at the Australian
Electoral Commission’s website.
“Postal votes will be sent shortly after the close of nominations and
the draw for ballot paper order is finalised,” said Mr Vidgen.
Division 11 of Moreton Bay City Council includes Narangba, Kurwongbah,
Dayboro, Samford Village, Samford Valley and Mount Samson among others.
