Pope's silver show at Senior Mets

Southern Cross swimmer Barry Pope, pictured above, struck silver twice at the 2022 Vorgee Brisbane Senior Metropolitan Championships.

Pope won silver medals in the 50m and 200m butterfly at Chandler on March 11-13 as well as finishing fourth in the 100m butterfly, sixth at 50m freestyle and eighth in the 100m freestyle.

It was excellent preparation for his first trip to the Age National Championships which are being held next month in South Australia.

Other notable performances for Southern Cross came from Lucas Want who was fourth in the 200m backstroke and ninth in the 400m freestyle.

Top finishes

Luke McDonald was sixth in 50m breaststroke and seventh at 100m freestyle, while Alia de Leeuw was ninth in the 200m backstroke.

There were top 20 finishes for Sami Chandler 2, Iona Hearsum 2, Amelie Hoefel, Luke McDonald, Barry Pope, Ella Sweeney 2, Lucas Want 5.

Also competing for Southern Cross were Jacob de Leeuw, Kai Harris and Emily Yates.

They were supported during the competition by Head Coach Jayden Hadler, director of Ripple Swim and fellow coach Yvonne Bosch.
