Power still out, roads closed in Moreton Bay

More than 21,000 homes and businesses are still without power after Monday’s wild storms, which hit the City of Moreton Bay particularly hard.

More than 30 local roads are still closed due to fallen trees or power lines, the number increasing following more storms last night.

Five schools in the City of Moreton Bay are closed today. They are: Banksia Beach State School, Beachmere State School, Bribie Island State High School, Bribie Island State School and Mount Samson State School.

Worst hits areas in City of Moreton Bay include Bribie Island, Narangba, Burpengary, Morayfield, Griffin and Caboolture.

“Damage to power infrastructure is significantly higher than other areas in South East Queensland. Council is working closely with agencies to address the network outages," a Moreton Bay City Council spokesperson said yesterday.

Council has opened 'places of refuge' at its libraries (except Bribie Island). These are open during regular business hours for residents to charge their devices, connect to Wi-Fi, escape the heat in airconditioning and have a cuppa while finding information.
