RAYS funding boost to support 36 Redcliffe young people into work-ready training
A major new funding boost will allow Redcliffe Area Youth Space (RAYS) to support up to 36 local young people through paid, work-ready training programs delivered right in the heart of the community.
The $856,200 investment will fund a 24-week traineeship program aimed at young people facing barriers to employment, building on earlier funding that helped strengthen RAYS’ youth support and training services.

The program will place participants into hands-on roles across RAYS’ social enterprise businesses, including 4020 Coffee, Connection Catering and Ride Supplies, while they complete a Certificate I in Workplace Skills.
Rather than classroom-only learning, trainees will gain real experience in retail, hospitality, administration and event management, areas where local employers continue to need staff.
RAYS CEO Amy Mayes said the funding would help young people who have struggled to find their footing in traditional training or employment pathways.
“This investment gives young people who have faced significant barriers to employment the chance to believe in themselves, build real skills and find their place in the workforce,” she said.
“Through our social enterprises, young people gain hands-on experience while giving back to their community, from preparing meals for our safe space service and special assistance school, to helping deliver events that bring people together.”
The announcement marks a significant expansion on previous funding received by RAYS, with a clearer focus on job readiness and direct workplace experience.
Local MP Kerri-Anne Dooley said the program would support young people who may otherwise struggle to complete training or gain practical experience.
“In Redcliffe, this investment will support up to 36 people to prepare for real jobs,” she said.
RAYS has long played a key role in supporting vulnerable young people across the Peninsula, offering not only training but connection, routine and a safe place to build confidence.
For locals, the impact will be seen not just in certificates earned, but in young people gaining the skills and experience needed to step into work and stay there.
The traineeships will be delivered locally throughout 2026, with participants supported across the full 24-week program.
