Red Magic's maiden voyage

Redcliffe Red Dragons have celebrated a special milestone - the arrival, blessing and first voyage of their new boat Red Magic.

The generosity of Maddie from Century 21 and VK Construction, enabled Red Dragons to buy the boat for training, racing and events.

It has been officially unveiled as Red Magic to symbolize strength, unity and the spirit of the dragon boat club.

A traditional dragon boat blessing ceremony was held to bring protection, good fortune and strength to the boat and its paddlers.

There was a symbolic “awakening of the dragon”, when the dragon’s eyes are dotted to bring its spirit to life, before Red Magic took to the water.

State Member for Redcliffe Kerri-Anne Dooley and Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) were at the ceremony with sponsors.

Redcliffe Red Dragons also thank Mathew, from Aragon Skins, for the boat signage and Jasmin, from La Farina Patisserie, for the catering.

The club is always looking for new members to join its dragon boat family and has issued a public invitation to “come and try a paddle”.
