Resort launches Australia’s first cabana club

Tangalooma Island Resort has today unveiled Australia’s first year-round beach front cabanas at the Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club.

Perched on Tangalooma Beach, it is designed to transform the famous Moreton Island destination ahead of the club’s spring opening.

With 20 private cabanas for day hire, the club will be for domestic and international travellers looking for a day trip or extended island stay.

Each cabana will be equipped with:

  • Seating for up to 6-8 people including benches with a central table for food and drinks

  • A fridge to keep beverages and share platters cool during the day

  • Adjustable shutters and fan to control cooling and privacy for comfort

  • Fresh beach towels, secure lock-up facilities, phone charging ports

  • Soft background music across the precinct

  • A selection of cabanas will also be wheelchair accessible

Tangalooma Island Resort Director, David James said Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club is a “unique addition to the Tangalooma experience”.

“The Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club is an Australian first, creating a dedicated beachfront cabana precinct where guests can relax, socialise and enjoy the island in a whole new way,” he said.

“As South East Queensland gears up for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games, investments like this are exactly what’s needed to uplift the region’s tourism product and ensure we can offer world-class experiences to visitors from across the globe.”

Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) CEO Natassia Wheeler agreed saying it is a “standout example of industry backing itself.

“To see a project like this come to life, an Australian-first concept in such an iconic location, is a significant milestone not just for Tangalooma, but for South East Queensland’s broader tourism offering.,” Ms Wheeler said.

“It reflects the confidence in our visitor economy and the opportunity ahead of us to showcase Queensland on a global stage.

“Continued investment in new and enhanced tourism products is critical to ensuring we remain competitive, encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more, and deliver lasting benefits for local communities.”

Tangalooma Dunes Cabana Club will be available to book for visiting Carnival Cruise Line shipguests from August 1.

Cabanas will open for special events, product launches, conferences and individual bookings from spring 2026.
