Safety boost at busy junction
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has finished upgrades to the intersection of Anzac Ave, Discovery Drive and Halpine Drive at Mango Hill.
TMR Deputy Regional Director Nicholas Broadley says pedestrians, bike riders, and other active transport users will benefit from improved access to the nearby retail precinct and the recently upgraded Mango Hill bus and train station.
The $4.5 million upgrade has delivered controlled left-turn lanes as well as raised pedestrian crossing points to improve safety for pedestrians and bike riders.
“Anzac Ave is a key arterial road linking the Bruce Highway and Redcliffe and is part of TMR’s North Coast region Principal Cycle Network, extensively used by bike riders,” he says.
“Previously, pedestrians had to cross multiple lanes of traffic on Anzac Ave. By realigning the crossings and modifying the intersection, these upgrades will reduce the potential for conflicts between drivers and pedestrians.
“The completed project provides a more accessible and safer intersection to meet the needs of the growing North Lakes community.”
The intersection upgrade was jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments.
