Holidays set for a wool-tastic start
Moreton Bay’s libraries are set to welcome furry friends as Council rolls out another packed winter school holiday program.
‘Winter Woollies’ will see alpacas and babydoll lambs visit Council libraries so youngsters can lead where wool comes from and how it’s used.
There will be live demonstrations of carding, the process of brushing and aligning raw wool fibres to prepare them for use, and spinning fibres into yarn or thread.
Alpacas and babydoll lambs are known for their gentle temperament and soft fleece, making them well-suited for safe, family-friendly interactions.
There’s also dozens of free boredom busters to pick from at Council’s galleries and museums or even the great outdoors.
“There is literally something for every child,” Mayor Peter Flannery said, “whether they prefer exploring their creativity indoors or want to test athleticism in a new sport.
“This is a great opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.”
Starting with libraries, families can pick from more than a dozen free activities, including Beginners 3D printing, Improv Jam, magic shows and a Circus Exploratorium.
Moving to Galleries and Museums, parents can let kids experience a farmyard family fun day, create a personal light-up LED story lantern and much, much more.
Outdoors, there are sports, fitness and adventure as part of the Active Holidays program with hip hop dancing, tennis, survival skills for girls, junior boxing and multicultural games part of what’s on offer.
