School’s incredible effort to help feed the needy

Students from Clontarf Beach State School are helping make a difference in their local community this Christmas by collecting food items for the less fortunate.

The school collected more than 1000 food items – which filled up multiple boxes – and donated them to the Redcliffe Community Care Network’s annual Community Christmas Appeal.

Helen Bambling from The Breakfast Club visited the school recently to collect the donations on behalf of the Redcliffe Community Care Network.

Clontarf Beach State School acting principal Penny Callaghan says she is proud of the students for their generosity and thinking of the less fortunate.

“At Clontarf Beach State School, we have a group of Year 5 and Year 6 students who meet regularly to plan fundraising activities to support our local community. They are known as the Clontarf Cares Committee,” Penny says.

“Each year at the start of Term 4, these students organise a collection of groceries to donate to The Breakfast Club Redcliffe for their Christmas Food appeal.

“The students organise baskets for each classroom, speaking with students to let them know what is required.

“Throughout the term, the Clontarf Cares Committee members then collect the groceries, ensuring that there is no out of date food and then pack the food in boxes.

“In Week 8 this year, members of The Breakfast Club Redcliffe were invited to an assembly to accept our donations. There was over 1000 items of food handed over.

“The members of Clontarf Cares feel honoured to be able to help out members of the local community who are finding it difficult to make ends meet. They say it makes them feel ‘warm and fuzzy’ and ‘proud of our school’.
