Search on for more ‘quiet heroes’
Moreton Bay residents are urged to join the quiet heroes and consider being foster carers.
In Foster and Kinship Carer Week (June 6-13), the search is on for more safe, stable, supportive homes offering short-term, long-term, emergency or respite care.
Anglicare Southern Queensland currently supports more than 150 care homes in Moreton Bay, with 83 general foster care and 74 kinship care households.
In 2025, Anglicare supported more than 1800 foster and kinship carers in Southern Queensland to provide safe and loving environments for 2339 children and young people.
“The work of our dedicated carers often happens quietly, in the everyday moments that may go unseen by others,” Anglicare’s Chief Operating Officer of Children, Youth and Families, Tammy Lloyd said.
“Their care and compassion does not go unnoticed. We are deeply grateful for the difference they make in the lives of children and young people.
“We welcome inquiries from people from all walks of life. You might be single, renting, retired, studying, working full-time, part of the LGBTQIA+ community, or from a diverse cultural or faith background.
“What matters to us is you are able to provide a safe, caring and supportive environment for a child or young person when they need it most.”
One Moreton Bay resident thought she would only be able to provide weekend care but “soon discovered there were many different ways” to support children.
“I love the memories we create, whether a child stays for a weekend or a lifetime. Seeing their innocent joy and happiness when they experience something special is incredibly rewarding,” she said.
Another became a carer “to make a difference in a child’s life” but now cares for several children.
“Some days are easier than others, but over time you see the positive difference that a safe and supportive home can make,” they said.
A third Moreton Bay carer, for more than 20 years, said it has been “one of the most rewarding experiences” of their life.
“Seeing children grow, develop confidence and reach their potential brings me great satisfaction and continues to motivate me,” they said.
Anglicare partners carers with practitioners to help them and provides connections to the wider foster care community, training programs, resources and 24/7 support lines.
