Seeing the lights for upgrade
Plans are being drawn up to ease growing congestion and frustration at a North Lakes intersection, now rated one of the busiest in the Moreton Bay Region.
Motorists have reported waiting five minutes and more to get out of Cook Crt – home to Bunnings and Costco. McDonald’s and Taco Bell are on Flinders Pde, opposite the entrance to Cook Crt.
Delays are particularly bad at weekends and may get worse, with more development planned for that area, unless a solution is found.
Driving ahead
Moreton Bay Regional Council favours traffic lights and additional turning lanes at Cook Crt-Flinders Pde to ease congestion.
It also has plans to build a roundabout a little further west along Flinders Pde at the junction with Torres Crescent.
Councillor Jodie Shipway (Div 4) says the project is still in the planning phase and would then have to go for budget consideration.
Positive move
“There may be some minor changes that need to be made, but I see the signalisation of the intersection as a huge positive,” Cr Shipway says.
“This intersection is one of the busiest in the region, especially on weekends, given this area is home to Bunnings and Costco.
“As one of the highest growth corridors I think it’s slowly getting worse and with the inclusion of more businesses on Flinders Pde it’s only going to get busier.”
Cr Shipway says she has been contacted by many community members about the intersection and the proposed upgrade had been welcomed.
