New servo plan for major road

Plans have been submitted for a new service station near one of Moreton Bay’s biggest visitor attractions.

A development application (DA) has been lodged with Moreton Bay City Council for a 10-bowser fuel stop at 411-449 Bribie Island Rd.

The 4.233-hectare block is on the corner of Bribie Island Rd and Old Toorbul Point Rd which leads to The Abbey Museum – home of the Abbey Medieval Festival - and St Michael’s College. It is on the same side of the road as an existing Shell outlet.

Details in the DA, publicly available on Council’s website, show plans for a single storey service station shop and the fuel forecourt canopy.

The proposal says there would be “ten fuel bowsers, including eight bowsers and 16 fuel points for small private vehicles and two for trucks and commercial vehicles”.

Access would be left-turn in and left-turn out from Bribie Island Rd, there will be 19 car parking spaces and the service station would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The DA says traffic volumes along that stretch of Bribie Island Road range from 24,400 to 48,000 vehicles a day.
