Singing for carers as Moreton Bay local steps into spotlight
A Moreton Bay local is stepping onto the stage to sing for unpaid carers and raise vital funds for long-term support programs planned for our region.
Kim Lunt is the only Singing Hero representing Moreton Bay in this year’s Unsung Heroes Gala, supporting the Carers Foundation and its Unsung Legacy Program.
The program is focused on building sustainable, long-term support for unpaid carers, including Australia’s first dedicated carers wellbeing centre, planned for the City of Moreton Bay.
She has less than six weeks to prepare.
“When the call came, it honestly terrified me,” Kim said.
“I’m not a singer. I’ve never performed publicly. But the cause is bigger than my fear.”
Why she’s doing it
Kim has spent more than 25 years supporting families during some of life’s hardest moments. Through that work, she has seen firsthand how demanding caring for others can be.
“Unpaid carers carry a full-time responsibility that takes a heavy toll physically, mentally and emotionally,” she said.
“Burnout is real, and too many carers feel isolated and overwhelmed.”
The Carers Foundation provides respite and practical support to unpaid carers. Through the Unsung Legacy Program, funds raised will help expand services and establish a dedicated wellbeing hub where carers can access support, rest and connection.
“If carers can show up every single day for someone else, I can step onto a stage for a few minutes and face my nerves,” Kim said.
“Sometimes courage is simply saying yes when it would be easier to say no.”
More than just a performance
Kim is aiming to raise $20,000 for the Unsung Legacy Program.
In the lead-up to the gala, she will be out across Moreton Bay speaking with local businesses, seeking sponsorships and rallying community support.
While she is sworn to secrecy about her song choice, she promises a hint of country charm and a little sparkle.
“If this wellbeing hub is going to be built locally, it will take all of us standing together,” she said.
“If I can find the courage to sing, we can all find a way to stand behind our carers.”
A community built on compassion
Kim has dedicated her professional life to supporting families with dignity and respect. The not-for-profit funeral service she manages donates all surplus funds to charity, with more than $7 million already given back to community causes.
Outside of work, she is a proud mum, wife, Dolphins supporter and keen Moreton Bay fisher.
That strong connection to community is what makes this fundraiser deeply personal.
How to support
Kim’s goal is to raise $20,000.
