Start of $290 million highway upgrade
Work on stage one of the $290 million Bruce Highway upgrade, through North Lakes and Griffin, will start on Monday (May 19).
It includes the construction of new northbound entry and southbound exit ramps from Dohles Rocks Rd to Anzac Ave.
Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says the upgrade will enhance road capacity, safety and reliability, reduce travel times, improve local and highway access and support traffic growth.
Contractor Albem SGQ Joint Venture (ASJV) is expected to complete the upgrade by late 2026, weather and construction scheduling permitting.
Stage One will see:
- construction on the centre median, drainage, general earthworks, geotechnical investigations (including drilling) and linemarking
- clearing works, potholing, delivery of materials and service investigation works on the southbound exit ramp (eastern side)
- nightworks on the highway median
- construction of a temporary footpath on Dohles Rocks Road (westbound) and closure of the footpath (eastbound)
- installation of signage and site delineation such as flagging, barriers and linemarking across the project corridor
- installation of sediment and erosion mitigations
- fencing, drainage, vegetation clearing and pavement works bulk earthworks, surveying and geotechnical works.
Daytime works will be between 6am-6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am-1pm on Saturday. Night works from 6pm-6am Sunday to Thursday
There will be reduced speed limits, construction signs, traffic control, changed traffic conditions, potential delays for motorists and possible noise, light, vibration and dust.
Access to Goodrich Rd East from Dohles Rocks Rd will also permanently close from Monday May 19 (see graphic below). Access will be via Silvereye and White Ibis Drives.
