Students showcase art at free market day

Creative Industries students at USC Moreton Bay will join regular vendors at a Creative Showcase Market Day open to the public on Wednesday (September 15).

The students will join stall holders at the campus, between Petrie railway station and Wyllie Park, to sell products they made, display creative work and perform between noon and 2pm.

USC Creative Industries Lecturer Karen Hands said the showcase was the brainchild of her students who wanted to help animate and add creativity to the campus.

“They are all local, they all went to high school in the region, and they’ve all got an immense pride about having the campus here,” Dr Hands said.

“They really wanted to do something to show off their region.”

Opportunity

Dr Hands said the event also gave students an opportunity to put into practice what they had learned about commercialising their creative products in their Bachelor of Creative Industries degree.

“Products on offer will include upcycled clothing, jewellery, digital art, ceramics, hand-made soaps and bath products,” she said. “There will also be live music, short films, photo displays and storytelling.

“Entry is free. The stall holders accept cashless payment but please bring some spare change to support the buskers.”
