Olympian to inspire women at luncheon

Olympic swimming champion Brooke Hanson will appear at the Bribie Island RSL Club as the guest speaker for an upcoming International Women’s Day Luncheon.

The gold and silver medallist will share her journey about swimming, womanhood and becoming a mother at the event on Friday, March 4.

“To say we are excited to be hosting Brooke is an understatement,” Bribie Island RSL Club Marketing Manager Cloe Einam says.

“Brooke is one of Australia’s most recognised athletes, having broken Australian and world records.

“She has represented our country as a swimming champion over 25 times, taking home the gold and silver at the 2004 Olympic Games.

“Brooke’s monumental career in the pool is outstanding, however, she is also an inspiration as a woman and a mother in her personal life.

“Having suffered a great loss after losing her second-born son Jack, when he was born 12 weeks premature, Brooke continues to bring awareness and support for the 48,000 premature or sick babies born in Australia every year.

“Hearing Brooke’s story and listening to her speak will be a great privilege and honour.”

How to take part

International Women’s Day is a global day held every year on March 8 and celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

This year’s theme is Break the Bias, which aims to create a gender equal world free of stereotypes and discrimination.

The International Women’s Day Luncheon at the Bribie Island RSL Club will include a two-course lunch, bubbles on arrival, treats donated by Cakes in the Mix, a photobooth supplied by Three Birds Photo Booth, raffles and more.

“Our International Women’s Day event is a fun filled and inspiring day out. It’s a fabulous opportunity to grab a group of friends or work colleagues and make a day of it together,” Cloe says.

“The food will be delicious, the champagne will be flowing and to put it simply, a great day to support an amazing cause.”

Tickets are $69 per person, with a portion from each ticket sold being donated to charity.

“A total of $5 from each ticket sold, as well as the profits from the raffles held on the day, will go to the Bribie Island Lions Club to assist with their annual Camp Quality Picnic for children diagnosed with cancer.”
