Talent shines through in 2022 Youth Art Awards

Monsters, food and animals were common themes in this year’s Moreton Bay Region Youth Art Awards.

Winners were announced last week, with Ashleigh Willis taking out the People’s Choice award with her stunning piece Nine Trophies.

Waste Not, from Albany Creek State High School, won first prize in the Years 7-12 3D collaborative category, Forest Bells from Mount Nebo State School came first in the category for Years 4-6 and Hive of Light from Caboolture Montessori School won for Prep-Grade 3.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the Youth Art Awards are a great way to nurture and encourage young people to continue their dreams to become great artists.

“This year’s crop of entrants produced a range of wild and thoughtful pieces, but above all they showed great skill and technique beyond their years in both the 2D and 3D categories,” he says.

“Council is a big supporter of the arts through our three galleries in Caboolture, Redcliffe and Pine Rivers, as well as a number of initiatives like the Moreton Bay Region Art Prize and the new Art At Large program, giving local artists a professional opportunity to create large-scale pieces for our public spaces.

“I’d like to congratulate all the artists who submitted their work to this year’s award and I hope to see you all graduate into professional artists.”
