Mango Hill swimmer Brenden Hall’s Tokyo Paralympics dream is still alive despite finishing in final place in the men’s 100m Backstroke S9 final tonight.
He will hit the water again on Thursday morning in the 100m Butterfly S9 heats, with the finals scheduled from 6pm on the same day.
Hall, 28, and a veteran of the Aussie team competing at his fourth Paralympics, swam his way through to the 100m Backstroke S9 finals this morning, finishing fourth in his heat and earning a lane one spot, following his bronze medal performance in Rio in 2016.
Competing in Heat 1, Hall finished fourth with a time of 1:05:78, behind fellow Australian Tim Hodge, who posted a time of 1:02:81.
Hodge, at his second Paralympics, earnt himself his first medal this evening, finishing third in a time of 1:01:65.
The gold went to the Russian Paralympic Committee’s Bogdan Mozgovoi, who broke the Paralympics record held by Aussie Matt Cowdrey with a time of 1:01:65, with Yahor Shchalkanau of Belarus claiming silver.
Hall, who trains with the Belgravia team at Burpengary Aquatic Centre with his coach of nine years Harley Connolly, had finished in fourth in the 400m Freestyle S9 final on day two of the Paralympics after winning his first 400m Freestyle S9 gold at London 2012 and again in Rio 2016.

Competing in Heat 1, Hall finished fourth with a time of 1:05:78, behind fellow Australian Tim Hodge, who posted a time of 1:02:81.
Italy’s Simone Barlaam came second in the heat, with New Zealand’s Jesse Reynolds in third.
Hall’s time was fast enough to earn him a berth in the final tonight in lane seven.
Today’s swim follows a fourth place in the 400m Freestyle S9 final on day two of the Paralympics.
