Tower-ing plan for bayside town
Beachmere Water Tower is to be transformed under Unitywater’s Community Artwork Program, which has already completed six major projects in the Moreton Bay Region.
The water tower design, decided in consultation with the community, comes in the year Beachmere celebrated the 150th anniversary of the naming of the town.
Unitywater Executive Manager Customer and Community Katherine Gee said the community said it wanted the tower to be painted.

“We’re thrilled Beachmere is our next project, and, like our other artworks, we will ensure this one reflects the values of the local area,” she said.
“This year has been challenging for many, and we understand some of the Beachmere 150-year naming celebrations have had to be postponed due to COVID-19.
“It’s good timing that we’ll be delivering this project in the same year as this milestone for the town.
“This is the 17th mural as part of Unitywater’s Community Artwork Program and we’ve just begun the planning for this community piece.”

Ms Gee said the community would be encouraged to share their ideas when the consultation process opened in October 2020.

Towering achievements:
King Street water tower: Caboolture, painted July 2020. Anzac-inspired mural adjacent to the former Fernhill Village which cared for returned veterans when it opened in the 1950s.
Wamuran pump station: Station St, painted April 2019. Design reflects the agricultural and rail history of Wamuran, a bright design that is a great addition to the community.
Bongaree water tower: Bribie Island, painted July 2018. This artwork, titled ‘Another world’s paradise’ depicts the thriving aquatic life that is unique to the area.
Woorim water tower: Bribie Island, painted July 2018. Artwork reflects the beach culture and the families living in the area.
Kallangur water tower: Curruthers Park, painted June 2017. Design symbolises the regeneration of Kallangur, highlighting the black cockatoo and signifying rain.
Ferny Hills reservoir: Hutton Road, painted June 2014. Artwork depicts the flora and fauna of this area.
