Trail bikes on trial in Mango Hill, North Lakes

Police from the Mango Hill North Lakes station are swapping road motorbikes for trail bikes to get around the Moreton Bay Region’s bushland, parks, rail corridors and cycle paths.

The station’s Office-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Shane Hancock says on MyPolice Pine Rivers, the bikes have been a hit.

“Our officers approached two teenage boys in a park and struck up a conversation about the bikes,” Sen-Sgt Hancock explains.

“It has created a talking point and allowed us the opportunity to speak with members of the community about other aspects of their safety.”

Covering more ground

He says the bikes have been on loan from Indooroopilly Police and helped cover ground in less obvious areas.

“The trail bikes allow us to have a policing presence and access to public spaces that we would not otherwise be able to readily reach,” Sen-Sgt Hancock says.

“This, in turn, enhances community safety and confidence in these areas.”

It’s hoped the patrols will become a regular part of policing in the region.
