Trio take on best in state
Three members of Redcliffe Leagues Swimming Club qualified to take on the best in state last week – with some fine performances.
Rylee Smith made five out of six finals in the 13 Years age group at the 2021 Queensland State Championships in Chandler.
The rising star from North Lakes, had four personal best (PB) times and a best placing of fifth at the championships from December 11-17.
Her results were: 400m Freestyle - 5th place PB; 800m Freestyle - 6th; 200m Individual Medley - 8th PB; 200m Backstroke - 9th PB; 200m Freestyle - 9th PB; 100m Backstroke - 19th.
Zaine Vardon (main picture), who celebrated his birthday at the championships, had two PBs in six events also in the 13 Years section.
His results were: 50m Backstroke - 14th PB; 100m Butterfly - 23rd; 100m Backstroke - 24th; 50m Butterfly - 26th; 50m Freestyle - 33rd PB; 100m Freestyle - 44th.
Hilary Rika also competed at 13 Years level in one event finishing 89th in the 50m Freestyle.
All three Redcliffe swimmers are coached by Wanda Drew at Redcliffe War Memorial Pool in Sydney St.
