Wheely great fundraiser ready to roll

Classic cars will be out in force this weekend as Club Pine Rivers hosts a fundraiser for a social enterprise helping parents cope with miscarriage.

Sweet Peanuts founder Barbara Armstrong says the car show and concert, in collaboration with Club Pine Rivers and CardiGras, will raise money to help educate families and friends of women who have miscarried about how to support them.

Run by Rohan James Robertson, the CardiGras event will feature classic cars, appearances from She Said Duo, market stalls and raffles.

Barbara says she’s grateful for the support of a number of Moreton Bay Region businesses, including European vehicle specialist BTuned at North Lakes, which will be bringing a car along.

Among the raffle prizes on offer are a smoker donated by Barbecues Galore, passes to high-tech immersive golf mecca Hey Caddy and high tea at the Shingle Inn.

A day to remember

The Sweet Peanuts CardiGras is on October 15 to coincide with Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

It’s a day close to Barbara’s heart – she founded Sweet Peanuts after suffering a miscarriage in 2019 and struggling to find support.

After her miscarriage she joined a support group and learnt from other mums that there’s still stigma attached to miscarriage and the grief of many women and their partners is dismissed by family and friends.

Sweet Peanuts helps educate people about how to support women who have miscarried and also gives care packages to hospitals and clinics as a tangible means of support.

Each package contains care items such as heat pillows, tea, and bath infusions to nurture and relax parents, as well as a locally crocheted peanut with either a blue bow tie, pink hair bow or a love heart for parents who did not know the gender of their child.

Sweet Peanuts CardiGras is on Saturday, October 15, with the car show and market stalls from 4-7pm and a cocktail function and concert from 7pm.

There are still limited market stall places and car spots available. To find out more or donate a prize for the raffle email info@sweetpeanuts.org.
