Win tickets in Dolphins v Broncos raffle to reunite Ukrainian family

Seventy double passes are up for grabs for tomorrow’s sold-out ‘Battle for Brisbane’ match between the Dolphins and Broncos to raise funds for a Redcliffe family who escaped war-torn Ukraine.

To help raise essential funds for members of the Torchinska family – and reunite them with a beloved husband and father who remains in Ukraine – leading community developer and home builder Ausbuild has donated 70 General Admission double passes to be raffled for the sold-out match at Suncorp Stadium this Friday, March 24.

The raffle opened at 8am today and tickets will be available for only 24 hours.

Winners of the raffle will be announced at 8am tomorrow – Friday, March 24 – game day.

Three generations of the Torchinska family fled Ukraine in 2022 and arrived in Moreton Bay with few possessions.

When the family fled, they left two family members behind who were unable to leave due to conscription restrictions at the time.

After several attempts, the owners of Dynamic Bradview Roofing and founder of the Vidler Family Foundation extracted one of the men to Redcliffe in late 2022.

Last week, he, his wife and his young daughter relocated to Ireland, where they have greater work and social prospects.

This has left a gap for the remaining family members living in Redcliffe.

They not only shared a home but also an incredibly close bond and financially supported each other in the community.

Connecting with community

Sasha Torchinska is a mum of two and the only family member able to work in Australia.

Sasha’s husband, Volodymyr, was unable to join his family when they fled Ukraine.

Sasha provides for her family of five, including two grandparents, as they try to make a home for themselves in Redcliffe.

The money raised through the raffle will go towards helping reunite Volodymyr with Sasha and their two children and help cover the Torchinska family’s living expenses while in Australia.

Ausbuild joint managing director Matthew Bell says he is pleased to help the Moreton Bay family.

“As community partner of the Dolphins, we are privileged to be in a position to connect with the local community and raise awareness of social issues impacting our region and its families,” Mr Bell says.

“This Friday’s match between our two local teams – Dolphins and Broncos – is set to be a true ‘Battle for Brisbane’.

“Entering the raffle is a rare chance to secure tickets for the sold-out game and will help raise funds for a special cause.

“The incredible generosity of the local community who have helped this family since they arrived has been overwhelming and epitomises true community spirit,” he says.
