Women in Business award nominations closing soon

A new awards program recognising women in business across The Hills District is celebrating the contribution they make to the community.

Run by The Hills and Districts Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee, the awards are open to all women in business with two categories – Woman in Chamber Award and Woman in Business Community Award.

Committee chairperson Susanne Jones says the awards aim to celebrate successful women in the Hills Chamber and the local business community who are inspiring role models, innovators, leaders, and encouragers of women.

“The program values how the nominees give back to their community while building business success,” Susanne says.

Awards organiser Mandy Barker says acknowledging the work of women was important.

“It’s about recognising all the great work women are doing,” Mandy says.

“The awards night will not only acknowledge the winners, it will also celebrate the finalists.”

Celebrating women

Judge Sharon Armstrong, who is the deputy chair of Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay, says it’s an opportunity to celebrate women who are not usually recognised for their hard work and to help women make connections in the business community.

“As women, we just get on with it – we’re not really looking for recognition, we just get the job done,” Sharon says.

“Women in the chamber do tend to have connections, so it’s women in the community we do need to draw into the chamber for that support network.”

Nominations close on April 1, with finalists announced on April 8.

A gala awards night will be held at the Arana Leagues Club on May 6.
