Work starts on $2m bike trails, skate parks

Three major new facilities are on their way for mountain bikers, skaters and riders in the City of Moreton Bay.

More than $2.1 million is being spent by Council on trails, skate and pump tracks in Burpengary, North Lakes and Deception Bay.

All are expected to open mid-2025, weather and any unforeseen circumstances permitting.

Work is due to start this month in Burpengary on the new $700,000 Lagoon Mountain Bike Trails.

The 3km facility will be Burpengary’s first Council-owned trails and “get people outdoors, challenging themselves”, Mayor Peter Flannery says.

Councillor Mark Booth (Div 2) said the Trails were "born out of childhood memories riding from Narangba through Burpengary and across Morayfield to hang out with mates".

“I’m stoked we’re moving full speed ahead with this project that’s so close to my heart,” he said.

Aurora Boulevard Skate Park in North Lakes is having a $900,000 upgrade that, when finished in mid-2025, will create a modern venue.

“This new space is specifically designed to cater to young people who are building their skill levels," Cr Jodie Shipway (Div 4) said.

".... offering a safe learning environment for anyone interested in getting ready for the challenging district level facilities.”

Deception Bay is set for a new $530,000 pump track, also due to open mid-year. It will be the second delivered by Council, which has more planned.

Cr Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said: “The new pump track is a big win for Deception Bay, providing a dedicated space for kids, teens, and adults to enjoy wheeled sports in a safe environment.”

The new facilities follow Council’s recent upgrades to skate parks at Albany Creek, Morayfield and Deception Bay.

Mayor Peter Flannery added: “These projects are just a few of the ways we are delivering our Outdoor Recreation Plan and long-term vision for quality outdoor recreation opportunities for people of all ages, with a special focus on young people.

“We’ve heard the community calls for more purpose-built spaces like these that encourage active lifestyles and foster community connections.”

This project is jointly funded by City of Moreton Bay and the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
