Work starts on $50m hotel and shops

Earthworks have started on a new $50 million hotel and shopping development at a busy intersection in Dakabin.

The Dakabin Hotel and Shopping Precinct is being built on 3.75-hectares of land on the corner of Alma Road and Old Gympie Road.

Confirmed tenants in the shopping centre include KFC, Guzman Y Gomez and Night Owl. There will also be a Shell service station.

The Comiskey Group, which is developing the site, says the 2500sqm hotel will be a local hub with a “unique design and striking architecture”.

It will serve locally-produced food, where possible, have a restaurant, large outdoor area, children’s playground, bar and gaming room.

When announcing the plans, it was estimated construction would take nine months and around 100 jobs would be created in the hotel and 200 across the entire development.

Comiskey Group Director Robert Comiskey said, late last year, the focus would be on attracting families in the surrounding growing communities.

“We’re looking at designs. It’s very different to the average pub, more upmarket,” he says. “It will feel more like an upmarket restaurant than a hotel.

“I’ve been driving past it for 10 years and thought it would be a nice place for a hotel. It’s elevated and has a nice outlook, and 24,000 cars drive past each day.”

The Comiskey Group built, owns and operates the Eatons Hill Hotel and Sandstone Point Hotel.

There are still spaces available for lease in the Dakabin shopping precinct. All inquiries should be emailed to hello@comiskey.com.au.
