World ranking on the line

A world ranking will be on the line when Deception Bay Boxing Club’s Waylon Law steps into the ring at Eatons Hill Hotel on March 5.

‘The Outlaw’ will face Justin 'Iceman' Frost, from Brisbane, at the Eatons Hill Hotel for the vacant IBF (International Boxing Federation) Asia Oceania Super Lightweight crown.

Winner of next month’s clash, the pair's third successive fight in seven months, will get the IBF belt and a world ranking in the top 15 at this weight.

In demand

Tickets have been selling fast after their first two contests, in September and November, which went the distance and were decided on a split decision and a rare majority decision.

Law won the first fight, ending Frost’s unbeaten record, but the ‘Iceman’ took the second – both were for the Australian Super Lightweight title.

Within boxing circles, they were also considered two of the fights of the year in 2020.

“As this was the trilogy fight, it was decided to put a different belt on the line,” said Damian Smith, trainer at Deception Bay Boxing Club.

Distance work

“We’ve got time to work for this. We’re building up for another 10 rounds, though obviously we’d like it to go our way much quicker.”

Law is currently training twice a day and sparring at least five days a week as the countdown begins on his quest for the IBF belt.

Deception Bay Boxing Club’s Hilary Collins will be making her fight debut at the Eatons Hill Hotel on March 27 in welterweight bout made at 69.85kg. Her opponent is to be announced.
