Meet the Morayfield candidates
We invited candidates to provide a profile which included their top three priorities. Here are their responses, in ballot paper order.
Name: Rodney Hansen
Party: One Nation
Suburb: Morayfield
Top 3 issues to address:
1. Road congestion and infrastructure - Over the past five years, traffic volume has surged by nearly 20 per cent, with peak-hour travel times doubling. Our roads are overcrowded, poorly maintained, and public transport options are limited. Future developments must be aligned with proper infrastructure and services.
2. Mental health is a growing crisis. As Morayfield has expanded, so too have mental health challenges. With a local population increase of nearly 15 per cent, we’ve seen a sharp rise in residents struggling. We need better funding, more accessible services, and early intervention programs.
3. Crime is an increasing concern. There must be stricter sentencing for serious crimes like assault, murder, and rape. Our judges must be accountable to ensure justice is served.

Name: Mark Jessup
Party: Queensland Greens
Suburb: Caboolture
Top 3 issues to address:
1. I’m a builder so I’m passionate about housing, especially how we can build the hundreds of thousands of homes we need to get out of the housing crisis without destroying precious wildlife habitat. We’re losing precious koala habitat due to poor planning and it's doing nothing to make housing more affordable. We’ll build 100,000 affordable homes across Queensland without destroying more habitat.
2. It’s getting more expensive to rent in Morayfield. Over the last five years, the average rent is up from $365 a week to $580 a week — and wages haven’t kept up. The Greens have a plan to freeze rents for two years and cap rents at one per cent a year after that.
3. I will fight the corrupting influence of corporate donations on politicians. Big business donates millions to the major parties.
Name: Frank Jordan
Party: Legalise Cannabis QLD
Suburb: Not provided
Top 3 issues to address:
- Cost of living - The rising cost of living for cannabis users needs to be addressed. I aim to reduce the cost of cannabis medicine by introducing a home grown option.
- Health – People are unable to access the health benefits of cannabis because they are forced to give up their driving licence. I will reform the law to test for impairment and not presence.
- The wastage of police resources directed to arresting cannabis users needs to stop. Police should concentrate on real crimes. Alcohol is often a trigger for violence, especially domestic violence. When cannabis is properly legalised, there will be a drop in alcohol-related crimes. Since 2010 over 700,000 Australians have been arrested for possession. This has unfairly branded people and restricts employment. I will ensure all historical personal-use cannabis criminal records are expunged.

Name: Mark Ryan
Electorate: Morayfield electorate
Political Party: Australian Labor Party
Top 3 issues to address:
- Ongoing cost of living relief with cheaper fuel, cheaper electricity, and 50 cent public transport fares.
- A stop to LNP cuts to local jobs and services. I am proud that my commitment and energy to get things done for our community has delivered an expanded Caboolture Hospital, new school halls, and a new PCYC.
- Delivering our evidence-based and expert-backed Homes for Queenslanders Plan and Community Safety for Queensland Plan. Being part of community is important to me and I have a long-term involvement with volunteer organisations like Rosies, Leukaemia Support Queensland, and the Morayfield Lions Club.
