Name: Sonja Gerdsen
Party: Queensland Greens
Suburb: Mitchelton
Top 3 issues to address:
1. In just two years the price of cheese has soared 27%, milk 23% and bread 24% — while Coles and Woolies made some of the highest profits in the world. We’ll break up the supermarket duopoly, cap prices for 30 essentials and put a stop to anti-competitive practices like land-banking.
2. The ‘big four banks’ are crushing mortgage holders and first home buyers. Over $400 from the average monthly repayment is pure profit for the banks. We’ll build 100,000 affordable homes and get mortgages under control with a public bank.
3. State schools are underfunded by $1.7 billion every year. Classrooms are under-resourced, teachers are overworked, and parents forced to cover the gap. We will fully fund public schools to reduce class sizes, improve teachers' pay and conditions, provide free school breakfasts and get rid of out-of-pocket expenses for families.
