$5 million boost for projects

A campaign before last month’s Federal Election has secured $5.35 million for Council projects in the Moreton Bay region.

This is in addition to more than $41 million in Federal Government grants in the 2024-25 financial year prior to the election.

Mayor Peter Flannery is pleased to see Council’s City of Moreton Bay Matters advocacy pay off with concrete commitments.

“Our main priority during the lead up to the federal election was to advocate for funding for growth,” the Mayor said.

“This includes for infrastructure to tackle congestion and unlock housing and funding to ensure liveability, sustainability and resilience.”

The ALP commitments include:

• $1.6 million for upgrades at Kumbartcho Sanctuary and Nursery at Eatons Hill

• $750,000 for upgrades to Woody Point Foreshore for with event requirements

• $3 million to refurbish the Toovey Street complex in Caboolture

• And commitment for Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation which Council hopes will improve mobile coverage, especially NBN-deprived areas.

“Council has a reputation for working collaboratively with all levels of Government, and we look forward to continuing this approach with the re-elected Labor Government to now deliver these projects,” Mayor Flannery said.

“With our population growing rapidly, planning for our future is critical. There’s more work to do, this funding is a step towards meeting those needs.”

“We look forward to working with two new MPs Emma Comer and Ali France and new Labor Senator Corinne Mulholland, as well as Terry Young who was re-elected in Longman.”
