Basketball club seeks new players for winter season

A Moreton Bay basketball club will be hosting a sign-on day this month in the hope of recruiting some more hoop stars to join its teams ahead of the winter season.

The Redcliffe Tigers Basketball Club is looking for boys aged between nine and 18-years-old to make up new teams, with registrations open from now until April 14.

Tryouts will then be held on April 23 and 30 and determine which division each player will enter.

The winter season will begin on May 6.

Redcliffe Tiger’s registrar Jacqui Musiello says all players are welcome at the club.

“It doesn’t matter if you are new to the game or have played before, we welcome everyone to come and join the club,” Jacqui says.

“We currently have 13 teams and 103 boys enrolled but we would love to have more – the sky is the limit to how many teams we can have.

“The great thing about basketball is it’s a great team sport and can be played all year around.

“We have boys in the club who come from all over the peninsula and other suburbs as well.”

The Redcliffe Tigers play at the Northside Indoor Sports Complex and are affiliated with the Northside Wizards Basketball Club competition.

Games are held on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, with different age groups and divisions playing on different days.

The club also has a training session once a week at Clontarf Beach State High School.

Jacqui says the club has a “family-friendly” vibe and creates lasting friendships.

“A lot of the boys who joined us last year keep coming back, and they are bringing some of their friends,” Jacqui says.

“We do try and let the boys play with their mates, but a lot of the boys also have teammates from other schools, so their friend network is expanding.

“At the end of the season we also have a club day where everyone gets together, and we celebrate the boys and the season.”

Great end to the season

The summer season finished up in late March, with multiple teams making it to the finals.

“Eight of our teams made it to the semi finals and three made it to the grand finals,” Jacqui says.

“All three teams won the grand final which was awesome.

“It was great to see the boys do well and win.”

The winning teams were 15 Sonics, 15 Warriors and 15 Ballerz.
