Big news for Beardy’s Bar & Kitchen
Iconic peninsula burger outlet Beardy’s Bar & Kitchen is no more.
Owners Ross and Lee Willson have made the difficult decision not to reopen after they were forced from their Kippa-Ring home of five years, with the property’s owners filing a development application for takeaway outlets and a gym at the Elizabeth Ave site.
They closed the doors at Kippa-Ring on July 10 and Ross says while they’d had signed up to move into the new Woody Point Marketplace, rising costs and other factors made a new outlet unviable.
“I’ve got a 14-year-old and I’d like to spend time with her before she moves out rather than doing six or seven days a week,” he says.
“I think my blood pressure will probably thank me,” he says.
The brothers have worked tirelessly since they opened Beardy’s in 2017, amassing a loyal following with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
New direction
Ross says the Beardy’s team is grateful for the support of their customers.
|“It’s just a massive thank-you for all your support.|
“They were the only reason we were considering keeping going, but you have to make a decision at some point.”
He says he and Lee are yet to decide what the future holds.
“We might go and do something else, something that’s not as stressful.
“It’s a good time to go back to the workforce because there’s lots of jobs.”
Famed for their trademark smoked and slow-cooked meats as well as homemade spicy sauces, Beardy’s came equal third in a poll for Brisbane’s best burgers run by The Courier-Mail.
The business also won Moreton Bay Region’s Forkies Eat and Drink Award for Best Tinder Date Venue and came first runner-up for Best Customer Service, Best Hangover Meal and Best Drinking Hole in Moreton Bay.
