Businesses shine at Chamber awards
The Hills and Districts Chamber of Commerce celebrated another year of success at its annual business awards night at the Arana Leagues Club.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery told the gathering Council was committed to supporting small businesses and encouraging people to buy locally.
“It’s significant for us to support small businesses,” Mayor Flannery says.
“If small business is doing well the community is doing well.
“It’s about building a sense of community and benefitting the community.
“Our focus is to support your businesses and help you grow your business."
Moreton Money matters
City of Morton Bay Chief Economic Development Officer Paul Martins says one way Council is supporting local businesses is through Moreton Money – an Eftpos gift card program that can be used in participating businesses throughout the community.
“Moreton Money is supporting our small business community,” Mr Martins says.
“After the 2022 floods, we launched an Eftpos card that can only be spent in Moreton Bay.
“For every $100 spent in Moreton Money it’s $180 in value for the community.”
Mr Martins says about 120 businesses have signed on to the scheme.
“It’s great for customers, family, friends and staff gifts,” he says.
Award winners
Judith Heindorff was honoured with a special mention for her dedication to the seniors’ committee, as was Donna Pritchard from First Class Accounts Ferny Grove for her work with the women’s committee.
Donna Thistlethwaite from Mentally WELLthy received the Community award for her tireless efforts presenting on mental health issues.
The Hidden Gem award went to Michael Pecic from In Safe Hands, the Chamber Service award to Richard Froehlich from RGF & Associates; and Jessie Jeffery from CyberGuru was awarded for sharing her knowledge of Artificial Intelligence readiness.
The Local Business Making a Difference award went to the Arana Leagues Club and its CEO Glyn Wallis, with Lee Martin from Style Your Way receiving the Customer Service award after raising $13,500 for Hummingbird House with a Sip, Style Support event.
