Cameron Smith masterclass before classic

Cameron Smith helped launch the sixth junior classic at Wantima Country Club yesterday by giving the young entrants a masterclass.

The clinic, on day one of the Cameron Smith Junior Classic, had been proposed by Smith, who learned to play at the Brendale course, three years ago.

However, COVID and his playing schedule in the US prevented the former Pine Rivers State High School student returning to Brendale - until yesterday.

The Cameron Smith Junior Classic concludes today with round two of the two-day 36-hole main event and a nine-hole competition for players under 14.

Smith is world ranked three after winning his first major, The Open Championship, The Players’ Championship and Sentry Tournament of Champions this year.

Last month the former Bray Park resident also won the Australian PGA for a third time and two months ago landed his first victory on the breakaway LIV tour.
