A Moreton Bay scout group is tapping into Christmas to help fund members’ activities, camps, adventures - and reduce financial barriers.
Clontarf Beach Scout Group is working hard to keep scouting affordable for local families by launching its first Christmas Tree fundraiser.
Festive funds raised will help members and leaders attend major scouting events such as Way Out Moot 2027, Australian Jamboree 2028, Cuboree 2029 and Agoonoree.
It will also give the scout group’s young people more opportunities, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
Christmas tree orders are open until November 20 for three sizes - a 5ft tree is $130; 6ft tree $150 and 7ft tree $165. A tree stand is $40.
Orders/payment are via QR code on the scout group’s promotional poster or by emailing [email protected]
Collection will be on Saturday December 5, from 10am-2pm at the Scout Hall at 11 Isobel Street, Clontarf.
“We’re always looking for new ways to fundraise that are a little different and the community can get involved in,” fundraising co-ordinator Kellie Anderson said.
“When the idea of a Christmas tree fundraiser came up, it just seemed like a great fit. Christmas is all about family and community, which aligns so well with scouting.
“We thought, why not give it a go? Hopefully, this first year is the beginning of something we can continue for many Christmases to come.
Clontarf Beach Scout Group is volunteer run and includes Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts.
Kellie said it provides a “fun and safe environment where local youth can develop new skills, self-confidence and strong values”.
