Candlelight vigil honours Emma Lovell

A candlelight vigil to celebrate the life of mum of two Emma Lovell, who was allegedly murdered on Boxing Day, will be held at Lake Eden this evening.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway shared details of the December 30 vigil on her Facebook page, saying the vigil will be a silent and respectful gathering, and posting details with the permission of Emma’s family.

Cr Shipways says the intention of the vigil, from 7-8pm, is to celebrate Emma’s life and it will go ahead regardless of the weather.

Way to pay tribute

“I have spoken with Emma’s husband Lee, and her extended family,” Cr Shipway’s post says.

“They mentioned that Emma’s favourite flowers were lilies and that Emma was a positive and happy person and had no particular favourite colour and loved to dress for comfort and not stand out.

|“This is an opportunity for the community to come together and respectfully remember Emma for the beautiful and positive person she was and to come together as a community.|

“There will be no speeches, it’s simply a time to reflect and remember.”

Show of support

Cr Shipway suggests that people who cannot attend the vigil but want to show their support for Emma and her family place a lily by their letterbox.

“I ask that when considering your attendance, you remember the neighbours in the area and be mindful of where you park,” she says.

The Lakes College will open its carpark off College St at North Lakes for those attending this evening’s vigil.

“I have contacted the police who will be in attendance for the safety of all concerned, however I’m sure our community will make this the send-off Emma and her family deserve,” Cr Shipway says.

She asked media not to attend, saying the vigil is a celebration of Emma’s life, not a media opportunity.

Boys charged

Emma, 41, was fatally stabbed in the chest after she and husband Lee Lovell disturbed two people who had allegedly broken into the home they shared with their two daughters.

Two boys, both 17, were charged with her murder and remanded in custody until January 16 after they appeared briefly in Brisbane Children’s Court on Wednesday.

The vigil follows a wave of support for the family from North Lakes community members, who have placed flowers and tributes at the Lovells’ home and donated more than $60,000 for Lee and his two daughters.

A Go Fund Me appeal, organized by Naomi Sprudzans, aims to raise $75,000 after exceeding an initial target of $50,000, with almost $70,000 raised so far.
