Clubs team-up to install life saver

Two cricket clubs on the Redcliffe peninsula have joined forces to support men’s health.
Redcliffe Cyclones Junior Cricket Club and Peninsula Cricket Club have bought an automated external defibrillator (AED) and cabinet for their shared clubhouse.
An AED is a portable electronic device used to revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest.
The presidents of both clubs, at Filmer Park in Clontarf, hoped it would never have to be used but said “it’s nice to know” a life-saving piece of equipment was available.
Movember
Cyclones’ President Neal Smith also takes part in Movember (growing a moustache in November) to help highlight men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and suicide.
Mr Smith said it is “a cause close to my heart and now in my 14th straight year of participating in Movember. We aim to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.
“We want to stop our men dying too young so they can enjoy the simple pleasures of watching their kids play cricket in a fun, safe and supportive environment.”
Peninsula club president Aaron Whittred is a long-term advocate for the “man walk” which focuses on men’s health by “having a chat”, “making new mates” and “getting active”.
