Dickson Seniors’ Expo success
A record number of seniors attended the 2023 Dickson Seniors’ Expo at Brendale’s South Pine Sports Complex this week.
The event, hosted by Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton, is in its 19th year and was held on August 22.
It was an opportunity for retired, or about to retire, seniors, to access information on activities and services available in the community with more than 100 stallholders providing information.
Exhibitors included retirement communities, social clubs, travel companies, health and wellness organisations, and Federal, State and Local Government services.
Speaking at the official welcome, Mr Dutton said the expo had successful for a long time because there’s a demand for information in the community.
“As you age – either for yourself or for your parents or for a next-door neighbour or for a loved one – there's a snippet of information that might improve your life, help make things just a little bit easier, connect you with somebody that has the expert advice that you need,” Mr Dutton said.
He said he was proud to be the Federal Member for Dickson and thanked the efforts of the Dickson Seniors Council and its achievements this year.
Key highlights of the expo were workshops led by industry experts including personal safety for seniors by the Queensland Police Service, iconic rail journeys and senior concession travel by Queensland Rail, SafeMate, cyber security – staying safe online by Telstra, aged pension support by CAPA Services and how to maintain independence when ageing by Green Apple Wellness.
Seniors were also treated to performances by accomplished keyboard player and vocalist Rob Rosenlund.
