Driving ahead with $125m overpass upgrade

Plans to upgrade the Linkfield Road overpass at Bald Hills have moved up a gear.

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to build the $125m upgrade have opened as part of a two-stage tender process.

The upgrade is to tackle congestion, queue lengths, ramp geometry and “lack of provision for active transport and pedestrians”.

Stage one will be open for applicants to register interest in construction work. Applicants will then be shortlisted for the second stage, tendering in 2023.

Community engagement on the design is expected to be held in early 2023, before the design is finalised.

This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government with $100 million and Queensland Government $25 million.

Linkfield Road overpass was struck by a vehicle for the second time this year in August, resulting in a temporary restriction on heavy vehicles crossing the bridge.

An upgrade to the overpass will increase the bridge height.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey said the upgrade “will get people home sooner, while making it safer for heavy vehicles travelling through the growing region”.

State Government Assistant Minister and Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd added “this infrastructure will support local business and industry.”
