Encircle to fire up the barbie and start conversations for R U OK? Day
Encircle is reminding the community there are people out there listening for R U OK? Day, with the Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre set to host a free barbecue to highlight the importance of the day.
The barbecue will be held on Thursday, September 8 – The actual date of R U OK? Day - from 11am-1pm at Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre.
Encircle Neighbourhoods Coordinator Chrissie Kelly said the purpose of R U OK? Day was to start a meaningful conversation with your loved ones.
“R U OK? Day is a day of action when we remind the people around us that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you ok?’ Beyond the question, it’s about starting a meaningful conversation whenever someone spots the signs that someone they care about might be struggling,” Chrissie said.
“You don’t need to be trained in counselling or mental health to have an R U OK? conversation. Listening and giving someone your time might be just what they need to help them through.
“Our free barbecue is designed to break the ice and break down barriers to check in on our friends and neighbours.
“It’s also a great chance to meet people and connect through conversation.”
People who wish to head to the free barbecue are being asked to RSVP by phoning 3889 0063 and asking for Pinaa.
