End to Kippa-Ring roadworks in sight
Work to upgrade a busy intersection at Kippa-Ring has been going on since January, with many motorists and residents wondering when it will finally be finished.
The work to remove a troublesome roundabout at the intersection of Boardman and Klingner roads and replace with traffic lights is just part of the project expected to be finished by the end of December (weather and site conditions permitting).
A Moreton Bay City Council spokeswoman says the work is on track despite it taking longer than expected to move services.
It aims to improve safety, particularly for cyclists and pedestrians, and reduce congestion by:
- upgrading the roundabout to a traffic signal-controlled intersection
- installing additional traffic lanes to increase the capacity
- installing cycle lanes, improved footpaths, and pedestrian crossings to improve safety
- providing additional street lighting and landscaping
The spokeswoman says the Principal Contractor and Council have liaised directly with affected residents and neighbours to ‘manage property impacts and requirements during works’.
“Residents living next to the works have been extremely helpful in parking their cars off the road,” she says.
“An appropriate traffic guidance scheme has been developed and implemented with traffic controllers on site managing traffic flow.
“We have advised motorists to plan their travel and allow extra travel time to help reduce disruptions.”
The upgrade is a joint initiative of the Federal Government (Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program) with $4 million in funding, and a City of Moreton Bay allocation for the project of about $6 million.
