Event to connect First Nations Job Seekers with employment, training

The State Government and local partners will host Pathways 4 Mob, a dynamic event aimed to empower First Nations job seekers with employment and training pathways at Morayfield this week.

The event will be held on March 13 at Morayfield Sports & Events Centre, 298 Morayfield Rd, Morayfield, from noon-2pm.

It will give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students an opportunity to connect with industry leaders, training providers, and cultural mentors in a supportive environment.

Recent school leavers, as well as Year 11 and 12 students will attend and be connected with employment and training programs, upskilling pathways, and Apprentice Connect Australia, which provides advice regarding apprenticeships and traineeships.

Attendees will also hear from guest speaker Sorita McGrane, an expert in entrepreneurship, and will engage with more than 45 stallholders across industries such as construction, defence, health and corrections.

There will also be yarn about apprenticeships, traineeships and the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Participants will have the chance to win raffle prizes, including a Captain’s Run experience, merchandise and a behind-the-scenes tour with the Dolphins NRL, donated by major sponsor and Queensland’s largest privately owned builder-developer Ausbuild.

Ausbuild Executive Manager Development Keith Cairns says initiatives like Pathways 4 Mob are important and align with Ausbuild’s passion for creating clear pathways to the development and construction industry for the next generation.

“Together, the Queensland Government and Ausbuild are working to create stronger links between schools and industry, to develop new ways to showcase the industry and empower more students to explore careers in development and construction,” Keith says.

“Ultimately, this initiative will benefit not only the wider student cohort but also the workforce of tomorrow.”

Pathways 4 Mob is proudly supported by the State Government, City of Moreton Bay Local Decision-Making Body, Grassroots Projects, Regional Development Australia - Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast, and Workforce Australia Local Jobs Somerset.
